You wouldn’t expect something a classy and interesting as Milagro Modern Mexican to be hidden away in a mini-mall, but here we have it. This place is a little touch of refinement in the middle of Webster Groves.
The very first thing you’ll notice upon coming in is lively Cuban jazz and a very pleasant, calming interior.
This place has some seriously good food. Whether you are just looking for traditional “tex-mex” or genuine Mexican cuisine you will find much to like here. The guacamole is very tasty and the ceviche is very light yet flavorful.
Probably my favorite dish there is the fish tacos. They are crispy and full of flavor and will fill you up pretty well unlike some other places that give you the bare minimum of fish per taco.
They also have some lovely deserts and cocktails. I personally like the Holy Mole and the Buena Vista Social Club (of which it’s namesake can be heard playing in the bar from time to time). The Horchata con Leche is a very fine cocktail as well.
The only complaint I can think of the place is that the quality of the drinks and food was not so good the last time we visited. Not sure what was different this time but it was not the usual high standard. The ceviche was not as fresh and the drinks lacked their usual quality, but every place can have an off day now and then. I would still highly suggest visiting Milagro some time if you have not already.
- Pros: Great food, great drinks, great environment. Extensive menu.
- Cons: Variable quality, though it may have just been a fluke.
- Charlie’ Favorites: Holy Mole, Tuna Ceviche , Chicken Mole
- Christine’s Favorites: Horchata con Leche, Fish Tacos, Guacamole
