Downtown St. Louis isn’t dead.  Don’t let anyone tell you different.  More and more interesting places are opening up East of Tucker and staying open later, making for a walkable and enjoyable downtown.  Bailey’s Range is great for lunch, dinner, or even a late night snack.

Thai Burger

Thai Burger

Besides their wide variety of regular menu burgers, which include beef, pork, duck, lamb, bison, and even vegetarian burgers, each day they have what they call the “Burger Battle”.  This is where two new burgers, of differing contents and cuisine, face off against each other and people vote with their stomachs.  A pretty neat idea, and it guarantees you find something new every time you visit.

Root Beer Float

But besides the burgers you will find a wide variety of cocktails and beer.  A really wide selection actually.  They have a long bar filled with taps that dispense many microbrew favorites, plus their own house made ginger ale which is some of the best I’ve had.

Horchata Shake

Did we mention they have house-made ice cream?  It’s very good and can be served by itself or mixed with booze.  They have a nice selection of alcoholic  milkshakes that make for a lovely finish (or start) of your meal.

Fries

Fries

Oh yes, and the fries.  They have some very nice fries that are crisp and not too greasy.  You also have around twenty different choices of dipping sauces to choose from.  Their honey mustard and their ginger ketchup are two of my favorites.

Kale Salad

The place does get crowded though, and noisy.  So noisy you’ll barely be able to carry on a conversation at times.  This can also mean long wait times, but we have been able to get served fairly quickly other times as well.  But don’t let the maddening crowd stop you from visiting this place; it’s well worth it.

  • Pros: Many delightful variations on three simple things: Burgers, Fries, and Ice Cream.
  • Cons: Can get really crowded and really loud. Service can get slow during rushes.
  • Charlie’ Favorites:  Duck Burger, Fries with Ginger Ketchup, Root Beer Float, Sweet Sweet Bacon Shake
  • Christine’s Favorites: Fries with Honey Mustard/Cheese Sauce, Horchata Shake, Kale Salad
