We’ve been doing We Eat Stuff for almost three and a half years now and sometimes we’re a little surprised where the blog has taken us. Being asked to be judges at the CWE Cocktail Party ranks pretty high up there with things we never imagined we’d be asked to do. We can’t thank CWE Scene enough for inviting us over to try some amazing mixology mixed by some of St. Louis’ best!
The whole show was MC’d by Dustin Parres, who is the bar manager at Gamlin Whiskey House. He’s a really friendly guy who showed up dressed extra sharp. The other judges were Allyson Mace who founded Sauce Magazine, Naomi Beth Roquet from the St. Louis Chapter of the USBG, and Kelly Waters who is the CWE Association President.
Even though the cocktail competition was the heart of the show, there was plenty for people of all ages to do. There was a lot of awesome music, including Sarah Jane & the Bluenotes:
Also there were some pretty colorful characters…
But the main reason we were all here was the cocktail competition. It was broken down into two groups of five, with the best out of those competing against each other, with one final round between two finalists.
The first round had a nice variety of flavors and personalities. We judged not only the drinks themselves, but also the creative presentation and the personality of the bartenders. There was a lot of very creative choices and glasses, and the second group of five was not any less interesting:
The winners of both the first two groups then moved on to a harder challenge where they only had a set group of ingredients. By this time the crowd was getting pretty rowdy:
In the end, the final competition did take place and the winner was Izzy from the Gamlin Whiskey House:
All in all it was a great time and we do hope this will continue to be a tradition in the CWE, Many thanks for Sauce, CWE Scene, and the USBG for making this possible and for letting us be part of it all!
